On Friday many people skipped school and work to participate in the Global Climate Strike. In Detroit they gathered and marched down Woodward to demand that leaders deal with climate change.
The climate that day was beautiful, sunny and hot!
Close to 500 people interested in climate change issues gathered at Grand Circus Park in Detroit then marched down Woodward, stopping at Hart Plaza to listen to speeches and express their concerns.
They marched together with a police escort calling for a Green New Deal, held various signs with statements such as “System Change, Not Climate Change” “I want to be a T-REX but I don’t want to go out like one,” and “There is no planet B”.
The “Green New Deal” proposed by some lawmakers in congress would be to decrease “climate changing activities and items”. Some analysts have concerns as it is difficult or impossible to estimate the costs and collateral costs as well as the impact on the economy.
In the state’s capital an estimated crowd of about 400 marched around downtown Lansing and gathered at the Capitol Building on Friday to display their concerns about climate change.
New York City schools excused the city’s students from class to participate as well as numerous other schools around the country.
Many more events occurred around the globe to bring attention to the ever present climate change situation.
